Rick Grimes, the man, the myth, the legend, has an actor behind him that's not too shabby himself: handsome British gentleman Andrew Lincoln. The high school jock turned hardworking actor has led a fascinating career so far, jumping from rom-coms to action to our favorite horror-action-drama hybrid, The Walking Dead.
He Stays in Dialect 80% of the Day.Once Andrew starts shooting, he says, he stays in a Georgia dialect for the full day, no matter how long. He told GQ, "As soon as I leave the house, I'm in dialect. For the first couple of weeks, when I was trying it out, it's like you're learning a new language. I wasn't as confident. But then [you realize] no one gives a s#!* anyways."
He Was Mark in Love, Actually. That iconic scene with the gigantic flash cards, the last one reading, "To me, you are perfect?" Rick Grimes. No joke.
"I mean, I’m trying to get as many people from Love Actually in the zombie apocalypse as I can," Andy told Entertainment Weekly. "I think Hugh and Colin would be hilarious as a double act in the zombie apocalypse."
Gwyneth Paltrow's Daughter Was the Flower Girl at His Wedding. When Andy married his wife Gael Anderson, daughter of Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson, in 2006, it was a star-studded affair. Apple Martin, daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, was the flower girl!
He Started Acting to Get Girls. In high school, Andy was pulled out of rugby and encouraged to try out for the school play, Oliver! He ended up landing the role as the Artful Dodger. Although at the time he used the role to get ladies, by 17 he was applying to drama schools.
He's an Amazing Cook. Between shoots, he sometimes invites the cast over to his Atlanta home for dinner. "He made this spaghetti Bolognese that was ridiculously delicious," co-star Steven Yeun (Glenn Rhee) toldMen's Health. "I said, 'Why don't you tone it down at being so good at everything?'"
This Isn't His First Gig With a Weapons Arsenal. Back in 2010, Andy starred as Major Hugh Collinson in Strike Back, a British predecessor to the Cinemax show of the same name. The show followed a fictional branch of MI6 called Section 20, so naturally, weapons were a staple. His gun instructor said that he's the most instinctive he ever worked with. No wonder Rick seems so comfortable with a gun!
